I've heard rather than seen most of Wimbledon, since I've been at work when most of the actual tennis is played, but when I get home I watch it on TV and listen to it on the radio because the commentators are better, they say interesting things and they make me laugh. And when it's raining they discuss interesting things (except when they're talking about the football).

Anyway, there's a British tennis player who took some time out to get a degree from Cambridge. Which is quite impressive. But there were people saying that she would never get anywhere with her tennis because she took that time off. There are also people saying that Venus and Serena Williams spend too much time on their other hobbies and that Tim Henman shouldn't go home to his wife and sprog when he plays at Wimbledon because said sprog (can't remember whether it's a boy or girl) doesn't care whether he wins or loses. Which is perfectly reasonable.

I can see that to get anywhere in sport you have to have no life, other than that sport. But the girl who went to Cambridge can do something else when she's too old to play anymore. She has so many options about what to do with her life, other than commentating or coaching. Which, to me, sounds so much more sensible. Venus, Serena and Henman, on the other hand, are all millionaires so probably don't need a job when they retire.
