This is how it works: Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation what the word means to you and why, and then pass out letters to those who want to play along.
Avon gave me an M.
Mum
This was the first M word I thought of, but then it was coming up a lot in the project I was doing at work at the time. Mum's the one I inherited my allergies and intolerances from, my height and my hair. Thanks, mum, you could have kept them.
Murder mysteries
I love murder mysteries! I can never work out whodunnit but I still enjoy them anyway. When I was younger I worked my way through Agatha Christie's Poirot and Ruth Rendell's Wexford in the library. Then there's Taggart and Morse, which I actually haven't seen that much of, and Midsomer Murders and Murder in Suburbia. There was also Dawn French's Murder Most Horrid. Strangely, though, I never liked Miss Marple or any non-Wexford Ruth Rendells.
Merlin
The cat. Also the name of a project at work - they had run out of ideas and were going for people's pets names. Merlin's the first cat we've had that sleeps with people, which is quite sweet. Kirsty just used to get you out of bed in the morning so she could have it to herself.
Mobile phone
How did we ever live without these? Although mine drives me up the wall. The only good things is that the keys are easier to press and it has a Tigger cover. Plus it was my sister's cast off. I'm not planning on ever buying any more, just taking her cast offs seems to work well to me. (And buying new batteries every so often.)
Money
Makes the world go round. You can't live without it. It doesn't make you happy, though, just gets you more stuff that you have no space to put it in. Not that I'd complain if someone offered me a million, though - I could get a bigger place to put all that stuff in.
May
The month I was born and therefore the best month in the year. It's also when spring really gets started and the weather is less cold and crap. Days like today excepted, of course.
When I was little I wished I could be called May and couldn't really understand why my parents didn't consider it. Those of you who know my last name know just how bad that combination would be. It is an old family name though. There's at least one May who was given the name for her mother, she wasn't actually born in May.
Music
You can't not have music. It depends a little on your definition but it's impossible to have a world without music because any sounds can sound musical.
Music can make you feel happy, make you feel sad, make you think and make you laugh. Playing it relaxes me, even when I'm trying to play something I can't. Which my mum couldn't quite understand why I told her once.
Maths
My dad has a PhD in maths, so the mathematical ability came built in. Although unlike him, I think maths is useful. Occasionally it can be quite interesting. I'm still not convinced it makes any sense when describing physics, though. I swear they stick differentials in there just to make it look good.
Ewan McGregor
Perhaps I should have written McGregor, Ewan. He's been the guy at the top of my list for years. With him, at least, I am consistent. I am aiming to see every film he's been in. Judging from the programme from Guys and Dolls, I'm doing quite well. Which reminds me, I could see if any are available to rent on amazon...
Magazines
Not as good as books. It annoys me that £3 only gets you an hours of reading, whereas you can buy a book for twice that price and last you for days. It doesn't stop me from reading them, though. Me and dad have an arrangement, where I take my magazines home for him to (skim-)read and then I (skim-)read his.
