3 drabbles and a hobbit birthday present
Monday 30th April 2007 8:06 pm
Back in March I mentioned that I was offering to write drabbles in return for a donation to Habitat for Humanity for me to go to Romania.
Since WP only lets you do one cut I'll come back to the drabbles themselves. But I enjoyed myself writing them, I had forgotten how much, since it's been a while since I wrote any. As my birthday is coming up (Saturday, so I am allowed to get excited tomorrow) I'm going to do it Hobbit-style again, and offer to write drabbles for any requests.
The drabbles:
Tanaqui asked for:
a drabble about Shep's previous experience(s) with Kate Heightmeyer that lead to him ask her to talk to Teyla in "The Gift"
Once I thought about it I came up with more backstory than will fit in 100 words, but I tried anyway.
Parting is such sweet sorrow
"Don't go." John's face was buried in her hair. "Don't mess with people's minds."
"After you helped me get this far?" Kate smiled and shook her head free of him. "I'm going to learn to help them. I'm not telling you not to go to Afghanistan and kill people."
"Will we ever meet again?" he asked, wistfully.
"Maybe in another life, on another world."
He smiled and kissed her. "It's not goodbye..."
"Look after your wonderful brain."
"Don't injure that beautiful body you've got."
She smiled at the compliment, and they parted, separated by sea, war and their different careers.
Jay (your postcard & cheque arrived this morning, thank you!) asked for:
two drabbles, one with Elrohir, one with Elladan.
Elrohir
Elrohir was watchful. He was on guard against any attack, taking his turn at defending the DĂșnedain camp.
From his position, he could still hear the Men behind him as they talked and sang before bed. The songs were old and good, and he hummed softly along with them. The smell of their pipeweed hung in the air, but it was not so overpowering he would miss the stink of an Orc, should one come close.
He smiled. He had enjoyed their company, but he was glad of the solace, away from the bustle at the end of the day.
Elladan
Elladan was watchful. He was on guard against any attack, taking his turn at defending the DĂșnedain camp.
In the distance he could smell the flowers that opened with the dawn. He saw the sun come over the horizon, and paint the sky in pinks and reds that reflected their battle the previous evening. The flash of a white tail told him a rabbit had dashed back its burrow, too fast for him to catch. Behind him, he heard grunts as the Men began to rise, in preparation for the new day.
He smiled, anticipating the pleasure of their company.
