Wimbledon
Sunday 8th July 2007 7:36 pm

Well, that's Wimbledon over for another year. Today was a great day of watching tennis all day - only the second time I've been able to do that. I was quite enjoying the men's doubles final while I had lunch but that was just a prelude to the main event. I really wanted Nadal to win because Federer's won Wimbledon before. But it was such a good and close match that I just really enjoyed it, and in the end I wanted them both to win.

There's such a contrast between the two of them. Nadal's always really sweaty and Federer never seems to break a sweat. I don't think I've ever heard him grunt either. Those two things, and his ability to just hit an ace breakpoint down (which must make it so frustrating to play against) make him such a cool customer on court. He makes it look easy. And he is the one person who can get away with wearing flannel trousers and a white blazer.

And then, we had the mixed doubles final. Radio 5 commentated on it - they never usually commentate on doubles because it's impossible to keep up with the rallies, they go so fast. Which is why I like doubles. But in this case it also features Jamie Murray - Andy Murray's older brother. Jamie's more of a doubles specialist and only asked Jelena Jankovic to play on the second Tuesday. And then they won! It was a great game and we have a Wimbledon champion for the first time in twenty years since Jeremy Bates and Jo Durie won the same event. Which I very vaguely remember.

And as one of the 5 Live commentary team said, as an older sister, I'm also very glad Jamie's won a Grand Slam title before Andy.
