Firefox Extensions
Wednesday 19th September 2007 9:35 pm

Entirely out of interest: what are the Firefox extensions you couldn't live without? And ones that you'd rather not live without too.

Couldn't live without:

Adblock - it comes as a bit of a shock on the occasions when I use IE to find websites having adverts and annoying flashing things!

Tab Mix Plus - mostly because it opens new tabs with the current page + history, the same as IE's default, which I refuse to live without. And also because it allows you to re-open closed tabs and remember what you had open even if you close Firefox (I know Firefox does some of those now, but since I have this, I've never used Firefox's)

Roboform Toolbar - because I can't remember my usernames and passwords, and although Firefox will remember them for you, it'll only cope with one per website.

Web Developer - it's a really useful way to turn images off quickly if you're on dial-up. And it'll show you all sorts of stuff useful for writing web pages. But mostly, it'll remember my window size, so when a site has decided I should have it fill the screen, I can get it back easily.

Would rather not live without:

British English Dictionary - I love that Firefox spellchecks as you type. I hate that it underlines so many more words without this.

Download statusbar - entirely because the download window popping up annoys me.

Flashgot - this picks up links you left click and asks whether you want to open, save or send to GetRight, which is really useful for links GetRight doesn't pick up

Gmail Manager - it's so nice not to have to log out of one account and into another. I have a tendency to try and be in two at once though, which it doesn't like quite so much...

Greasemonkey - it lets me have useful LJ scripts, like the one that tells me which comments I've seen before, and lets me unfold them rather than having to click on every tab

IE tab/IE view/Opera view - the former opens IE in a tab, the other right click opens IE. So when there's a site that'll only work in IE, I don't have to find where I've hidden it on the start menu. The latter does the same for Opera.

LJlogin - so useful for changing between LJs when you have more than you have browsers on your computer (although I actually now have exactly the same number, but there is a limit to how much you can have open)

TinyUrlCreator - saves me having to go to the website
