ISIHAC stage show
Thursday 27th September 2007 8:08 pm

I went to the I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue stage show last night in Oxford. In order to get there in time and eat, I tried a pot noodle thing from Trufree, on dad's recommendation. I'd never eaten one before, but this was really nice and filling, even if it did seem a bit like eating baby food.

Non-Brits, the rest of this post will not make any sense - ISIHAC being a very British comedy.

Since the tickets were £20.50 or £22.50 I went for the expensive ones and I'm very glad I did because they was more action than during normal recordings. I was a bit disappointed at the beginning when Humph's intro to Oxford included the Tim Henman joke from when they last recorded in Oxford (Tim Henman was incidentally, in Waitrose this morning). But it was really funny.

For the singing rounds they had to pick their sheet of words up from Humph's table and go to the front to sing. Jeremy Hardy claimed he had a cold, which was why his singing was bad. Tim Brooke-Taylor 'danced' to his.

They repeated the scene from The Importance of Being Earnest with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, although with added breathing from Graeme Garden before that line. And a cameo from R2D2 as Gwendoline. After that, though, Jeremy and Tim did that scene from When Harry Met Sally as Billy Crystal and a Clanger. The Clanger was played by Tim on the swanny whistle (now I know that that looks like!) and was playing Sally. You can guess the rest.

Graeme and Barry Cryer did prove they worked some of it out in advance when John Naismith, the producer, showed them the laser display board for Sound Charades and Barry said, "Oh, that's a surprise." Impressively, Jeremy and Tim did Dirty Harry in three lines:
"Potter!"
"Yes, miss."
"Don't do that again."

The sat nav 'helped' them play Mornington Crescent. I particularly liked its direction of "Turn left where the cinema used to be," and "Face it, you're lost."

They did a round at the end called Quiz of Quizzes which involved lots of well known ones. They all nominated Anne Robinson as the weakest link.

Everyone in the audience got a kazoo, so joined in with Swanny Kazoo, and played a well-known tune for the teams to fail to guess.

At the end Humph played the trumpet, which was really cool to see, even if he was a bit near the microphone. He was introduced as "still not dead".

I bought a program, which was a good investment. It had a particularly good joke in it:
Premium-rate phone-in prize draw!
Phone lines are now closed. You will be charged for your call.

I ended up running for the bus and made it just before it left - otherwise I'd have had to wait an hour for the next one. As it was I didn't get home till 11.20pm, so I was glad I had run, even though the cold didn't do much for my throat or asthma. Or head.

I did really enjoy it. Let's hope they'll do another stage show tour in the future. Poole Arts Centre or the BIC would be good places...
