The interests meme
Tuesday 5th August 2008 10:56 pm

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your LJ profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

andrealyn gave me the following:

American English
A very useful thing to know when writing fanfic for American programmes. And something I've learnt quite a lot of from betaing for hhertzof. It is quite interesting the weird and wonderful words the Americans have for things and the weird and wonderful ways they have of saying them. The phrase that makes me laugh most is 'write me', which I would interpret in the same way as 'draw me', Since that means draw a picture of me, write me... doesn't quite make sense. 'Link me', which I've seen on a few websites, amuses me even more.

Rotaract
I'm so glad you picked this one because I could go on about it for ages. It's an international organisation for 18-30 year olds to have fun, make new friends and make a difference. Last Saturday morning I got up early to and see what Riding for the Disabled is all about. Tonight we were going to have a picnic, so it chucked it down with rain, so we spent three hours in the pub instead, talking and laughing. The people I work with are alright, but not people I would want to spend more time with, and the friends I've made in Rotaract are the only friends I have in this area.

I have a terrible tendency to volunteer with things, which is how I've held every club position, am now on the District exec for the third year running, and am on the committee that's running the National Conference in May. And this is why it takes up a lot of my time - there's always something to do.

Eva Cassidy
I like a) the songs she's done and b) the way she does them. I can sing along to them too.

Poole
Home. On the road to nowhere, but doesn't feel like the middle of nowhere like here does.

TPM
That stands for The Phantom Menace, which was my second fandom, and my first big fandom. It was the first time I discovered slash. And how I met jedinic. I'm not a big fan of Star Wars, but of course I saw all the prequels because they had Ewan McGregor in. And I like the relationship between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, so that was the corner of the fandom I was in.

Trip/T'Pol
From Enterprise. Which was Star Trek, so of course I watched it. I loved the relationship between the two of them in the first season particularly where they just sniped at each other all the time. Later, once it became canon, I didn't completely go off it, but it wasn't quite as interesting. There might well be big parallels with my feelings about Sarah/Harry here...

Time
I love time, it's fascinating. I have a clock in my lounge that goes backwards (I get confused looking at my watch sometimes and am now completely confused about which way is clockwise and which way is anti-clockwise). I look at my watch a lot, not because I'm bored, but because I hate not knowing what the time is. That little digital clock in the right corner of the computer screen is great. Although I hate having different clocks in the same room telling me different times.

What's so interesting about time is it's not constant. It fascinates me the way we divide up time. We have the atomic clock, which tells us time so accurately that we occasionally get a leap second. And time isn't decimalised like everything else either.
