SJA (Secrets of the Stars and Mark of the Beserker) – SPOILERS
Monday 10th November 2008 10:43 pm

I did watch last fortnight's episode, even if it was on a laptop in a hotel room in Toronto while doing the washing. And then this fortnight's I watched tonight. So I should talk about them both (even if it's just to annoy Hilary when she's doing tonight's soniclipstick) and spoil them a lot for those who haven't seen them.

Cut for spoilers:
Secrets of the Stars
I really disliked this one. In order to watch stuff and enjoy it you do have to suspend your disbelief, especially when they do things you know are impossible, or get stuff wrong. Sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. This time I couldn't, I don't know why. But as Hilary will attest, I did have my head in my hands at one point.

I loved Luke's "He's a bit milky", it was the best bit of the episode. I hated that they went on about the Doctor and no Harry. Every episode this series has had an excellent opportunity to mention him, but have so far failed, which doesn't give me much hope for the remaining two. But I digress.

One of the things that really got me is that they started going through the Signs of the Zodiac in such a way that Sarah's star sign was going to be last. Firstly, the bad guy should really have read the Evil Overlord Handbook and taken her out first. Secondly, it was obvious he only started there so that Sarah was left. Apart from the fact where I was looking forward to her going Zombie-like and only Luke being left, there was no reason within the story for him to start at Gemini. Especially when the first Sign is Aries.

So after two crap episodes and only one good one to start with, I was starting to worry about SJA before tonight.

Mark of the Beserker
I really enjoyed this one. I liked Clyde and Luke's 'sleepover' and seeing more of Clyde's family. Of course it makes sense that Sarah's spoken to Clyde's mum quite a bit, given their sons are best friends. It was so great, and unexpected, to have Maria and Alan help. And George Garfield was back in it again, which I was so hoping for. I haven't met him - he left before I started going to The Bill studios.

The one thing I didn't like quite so much was Sarah turning up to save the day. It made it seem like everyone's elses efforts were a bit for nothing when it just requires Sarah to turn up and give Clyde a pep talk.

But I did love Sarah's multi-coloured post-it notes all around the place. Although she should be careful signing them SJ, that could catch on...
