Dear Yuletide Writer

First of all, feel free to ignore anything I’ve said in the prompts. If you can write any of those then that’ll be great, but they’re mostly just what I’d most prefer to get. At the end of the day I’d far rather get something you’re proud of than something you’re less happy with but fits in with what I’ve put down. Feel free to add in any other characters you like to these prompts – as long as the one(s) I’ve requested are in there, you can bring in to the story whoever else you like. There aren’t any characters in these fandoms that I dislike.

Generally speaking, I love stories that have an emotional punch in some way. Whether it makes me laugh, cry, be happy, be all gooey inside, be shocked etc. What particularly fascinates me, as you might have gathered from my prompts, are relationships between characters, whether they’re romantic or not. I don’t mind whether you write something shippy or gen for any of the prompts, so long as you stick to canonical ships. I’d just rather not have any sex above a PG-13 rating.

If you’re writing for one of the British TV show prompts and you’re not British, then please get your fic Brit-picked. There’s nothing likely to annoy me more than characters being out of character because they’re speaking American English when they should be speaking British English.

If you want to do more research then my fic recs can be found at this site. There are recs from a few people on there, mine are the ones that say they are recced by Paranoidangel.

Just a few notes about the prompts:

Spooks (Harry)
I’d love to see something about the relationship between Harry and Wes. Wes calls Harry ‘Uncle Harry’ at least once, so I’d love to know more about how well they knew each other. Or after Adam dies how much contact does Harry have with Wes? Given that Harry has pretty much no contact with his son, that could also be an interesting area to explore. Also, what does Harry’s relationship with Wes suggest about his (non-slash) relationship with Adam?

I’ll also add that I am up-to-date with BBC1 episodes, so feel free to set this any time you like. Write me some Harry and I’ll be happy. Write me something about the relationship between Harry and Wes and I’ll be happier. The rest of the above are just ideas for areas to explore – I don’t imagine for a minute that you could get all of them into one story and if you find a different aspect to explore that’ll be great too.

Quantum Leap (Sam & Al)
I love the relationship between Sam and Al, so I’d love to see something that explores that, as long as it’s not slash. Either during a leap or before Sam’s first leap would be good, since I hate the idea that Sam never returned home. I’d love to see them working together to solve a problem, each doing what they’re best at. If you’d like an idea for a leap, then I’d love to see something you know about – one of the great things about Quantum Leap has been how much I’ve learnt about cultures, places and recent history.

In the reverse of the third paragraph above, if you’re not American, please get this American-picked. I’m less likely to notice if there’s anything non-American, but I feel hypocritical for asking non-British writers to write British English and not the reverse. For this prompt, just give me some Sam and Al and that’ll be great (as long as it’s not slash).

Teachers (Simon & Susan)
I love the friendship between Simon and Susan, so I’d love to see something exploring that. Simon comes back to the school after he’s been ‘travelling’ and we get to see the reactions from Brian and Kurt and other teachers, but I’d love to know what Susan thinks of it. Does she hate him for leaving so suddenly? Does she know that he didn’t really go? Does their relationship change at all in the light of what happens?

Feel free to ignore the above idea if you want – if you write Simon and Susan I’ll be happy.

Press Gang (Lynda & Spike)
I love Lynda and her bossiness. And the banter between her and Spike – I think I prefer them arguing to doing anything else. So I’d love to see some of both of those things. Maybe something with Lynda bossing people outside of the Junior Gazette staff (and her friends and people at school). Maybe Spike has to pull her back a little – whether or not she’d listen to him.

It’s impossible to think of Press Gang and not think of Spike and Lynda. I do like UST, although in their case it tends to consist of arguing, so I’d prefer something set relatively early on, but that’s merely a preference. I’ll be equally happy whenever you write them as long as they’re in character really.
