Stargate Universe
Tuesday 15th December 2009 7:39 pm

Now that we've had ten (ish, since two of them were stuck together) episodes of Stargate Universe, I thought I'd demonstrate just how crap I am at working out people's names in TV programmes. Although, it has to be said the Confidential-type programme after the first (two) episode(s) helped a lot.

There might be spoilers below for the episodes that have been shown.

First, there's Robert Carlyle. Funnily enough, I could recognise him from the start. I couldn't really be bothered to work out the name of his character since I already knew the name of the actor. But it is Nicholas Rush. Or Rusch. I think it's the first one but my brain keeps telling me it's the second for no explicable reason.

Then there's Eli. Except that when I see it written down I think it's pronounced Ellie. Even if that last e makes all the difference. So I was convinced for ages his last name was Quinn (cf Vorkosigan). It's not, it's Wallace.

Chloe doesn't have a last name. I got her name and Eli's in the first episode - hers was because I knew someone at primary school called that who was a complete bitch, so I tend to assume the same of all people called Chloe, even thought it's clearly not true.

The Colonel I had trouble with - I couldn't work out whether it was Everett or Young. Then I realised it was written on his uniform, which you'd think would be a dead giveaway... (It's Young).

TJ is the girl who's a bit of a medic - I don't think she's a doctor, just has some kind of medical training. I think her last name is Johannsen. She presumably has a first name beginning with T, which I keep thinking is Thomas (that would be a tennis player). Clearly it isn't since she's not a boy.

For a while I knew there was a character called Scott, but had no idea whether it was his first or last name. Or which one he was. I now know that he's the baby-faced one and it's his last name. I think his first name might be Matt, but I'm not certain.

There are other people on the Destiny I can recognise, but they could be called anything. So that's slightly more than one name every two episodes... Of course, I could find out all this information easily by looking on the internet, but where's the fun in that?

Any guesses as to how many names I'll manage by the end of the series? (which is about 20 episodes)
