Frustration
Saturday 24th September 2011 11:10 am
Yesterday was a bit of a frustrating day. First I discovered I had a hole in the knee of my jeans. Last time my jeans all went holey I had to have my sister drag me round all the clothes shops to try on all the jeans to establish that only New Look's jeans fit me. Amazingly, I found some that are ordinary (I can't wear hipsters because belts are really uncomfortable because they pull all the fabric to the front, and can't wear flares/boot cut because I need them to stop at my shoes so I don't walk on them). So I bought two pairs, which I had to do online because the shop only has long and extra long leg lengths. If you want slightly long, you have to buy them online.
So as I bought two at once, that means if one's gone, the other's going to go too. And do New Look still do the same style of jeans? Of course not. And, at least according to the website, all their jeans are £20, which is twice what I'm prepared to pay for jeans. Which means I now need to find some jeans (and buy about six pairs this time when I find some). What I really need are children's jeans, because they fit properly, but it's impossible to find some that aren't cool or girly.
And then in the afternoon we had team building exercise, which involved making chocolate. Well, that was my contribution to the creating a chocolate brand (no one in my team would let me create an evil brand). So I spent the entire afternoon with chocolate around the room and on the table. It would have been so easy just to eat some, but I couldn't. I was so hungry by the time I left and could still taste chocolate when I went to bed. I'm halfway through my everything + sugar free diet and I haven't ever wanted chocolate as much as I did yesterday.

Coldplay
Thursday 22nd September 2011 9:41 pm
I have tickets to see Coldplay at the O2 in December. Which is only two weeks after we'll be there to see one of the semi-finals of the tennis. I am excited to be going, not so much to be going to the other side of London for the evening, which will be a pain.
The strange part is that we're sitting in the same area as we always have done (three lots of tennis and one gymnastics). I don't know what you have to do to get tickets round the other side.
As much as it seems strange to be sitting down to see them (and pay more than for standing!), given the length of time, all the people and the lights, I won't be able to stand for that long. It's bad enough where we're sitting which looks a long way down when you're standing up and it tends to be dark, so I have to hold onto my sister getting to and from our seats.

What I’ve been up to
Tuesday 20th September 2011 8:25 pm
Last Wednesday I randomly got dizzy. Which is crap, but on the plus side, at least it wasn't this Wednesday, as that's when ballet starts again and I finished my Girl Saves Boy ficathon fic last Tuesday. Once I had the idea I sat down for an hour on Sunday evening, Monday evening and Tuesday evening and then it was done. Minus betaing obviously.
So my life for the past week has been very boring. Apart from discovering a big spider on my bed last night, which is the sort of excitement I can do without.
And Spooks is back, yay! Sadly only for six episodes. But this week's featured Dayna from Blake's 7 (I spent the whole of the first scene she was in trying to work out if it was her). When I went on the website to check the credits I realised I knew why I recognised Elena - she was the Borg Queen. Only First Contact was quite a long time ago.

Yes, Prime Minister
Sunday 11th September 2011 9:48 pm
I went to see Yes, Prime Minister at the theatre yesterday. It was quite weird that I left the house not long before lunch and got back before Doctor Who, yet in that time had been to London and seen a play.
We managed to find the theatre fairly easily, despite it being in Shaftesbury Avenue, which is impossible to navigate. And our conversation on the train going like this:
Me: Where are we going?
My sister: Hammersmith Apollo
Me: So why does it say the nearest tube is Picadilly Circus?
The stairs up to the balcony had walls and a floor that looked like you'd get in a toilet. Then the balcony itself was dark and had uneven stairs. Either of those is quite bad for me never mind both... Fortunately there were lots of handrails. When we sat down the top of the seats of the people in front of us were around our feet and there was a rail in our eyeline to the stage. And when you sat on the seats they didn't go down all the way.
Despite all that it was good and funny. It was a lot like an episode, only longer, with different actors (all of whom had either been in The Bill, Doctor Who or Midsomer Murders). It was updated, though. There was a woman in it! And Blackberries and a flatscreen TV.
Some of the jokes were a lot like in the series - Hacker asks Humphrey to give him a straight answer of yes or no, for example. Humphrey had a couple of very long sentences, which he got a round of applause for.
I don't think it really got going until the second scene, but it was funny and definitely worth seeing.

End of SJA ficathon
Saturday 10th September 2011 10:19 am
Since SJA is ending this autumn, it seemed only fitting that it ends with a ficathon. So I am running the End of SJA ficathon because I haven't run a ficathon for two years, so it must be about time
This is a prompt-based ficathon, so no matching up for me and not writing for someone else for anyone. Or any penalties at all. You can leave prompts for the next two weeks, then write something by the end of October. Easy!

On writing
Tuesday 6th September 2011 8:24 pm
A year ago I discovered lotr_community when I wanted to get back into writing LOTR again and needed a challenge. So I wrote a few things and then it all went to pot in the autumn when my Sci-Fi Big Bang fic took over. It didn't help that I was determined to write different things. I've gone back to it this month and told myself that if I want to write fluffy and/or angsty Elrond fic I can. So I have. It's not finished yet and it's not due yet, but I have 800 words of Elrond and Arwen fluff and I don't care if no one reads it. I actually wrote something, which is a start.
Mind you, I've also signed up for girlsavesboyfic, the premise of which is that you write anything you like where the girl saves the boy and/or the world. The idea being that that's unusual. Except all the girls I could immediately think of writing have done that in canon... And then I remembered I signed up for fanbingo and I have some squares that I will never fill unless I specifically write something to fill them. And now I have a vague plot idea and a main character definitely in mind.
And at the end of the week (ish) I am going to be running an SJA ficathon. So I think that'll all keep me going until Yuletide...

This week
Friday 2nd September 2011 8:18 pm
This week I have:
- Made a shepherd's pie for the first time ever. It didn't stick together, but it tasted nice and that's all that counts
- Had a fry up for breakfast because I ran out of porridge - well, I say fry up, but actually only the tomatoes were fried. The has browns were cooked in the oven the previous night and microwaved. But they did taste very nice
- Got the car out of the garage without having to go forwards for the first time ever
- Seen a lot of tractors on my way to and from work. On Wednesday I managed to get stuck behind one when it was stuck behind a cyclist going up a hill...
