Three year anniversary
Wednesday 29th February 2012 7:04 pm
I missed it because I was ill, ironically, but the end of this month is my three year anniversary of being dizzy. Although I'm not sure if anniversary is the right word for something you don't celebrate.
Back when I was first ill someone at work was pregnant and kept throwing up. She was guaranteed not to be ill for longer than nine months and to make a complete recovery. She's since had a second baby and I'm still ill - and for all I know this could be as good as it gets.
Ages ago, when you could put in to volunteer at the Olympic games I thought about it, but decided not to because I didn't know if I'd be able to get the time off work, I wanted to see some of the Olympics and it wasn't clear whether you'd get to do that and I wasn't sure if I'd still be ill. The last of those is certainly true.
I'd find something positive to put in this post, but I'm sitting on my sofa feeling the room going round and thinking about how I'm not at ballet for the second week this term (out of five weeks).
If anyone wants to cheer me up, you can't go wrong with bunny pictures...

I’ve gone off Februarys
Tuesday 28th February 2012 8:15 pm
In the latest edition of this year is rubbish, February particularly so, this week I'm dizzy. It is just dizzy and it's not that bad, but I do have a pile of bean bags behind my desk at work so I can lie down a few times a day. On the plus side, work has finally calmed down a bit, so I am working from home tomorrow. I just hate working from home - probably because I associate it with being ill.

Still rubbish
Sunday 26th February 2012 5:16 pm
Things are still going pretty rubbishly, hence my lack of posting. I've spent this week with a sore throat, which, coupled with another busy week at work, meant I was too tired and dizzy to do anything else all week.
Monday I had an inspection, so last weekend, while I was feeling not too tired and dizzy and only had a sore throat coming on, I had to clean the house. And go on a 15 minute drive to the nearest DIY store to buy some polyfila and paint in case the person doing the inspecting looked behind my bedroom curtains at where the curtain rail used to be fixed to the wall. I also went to the massive Tescos there, which was good because they had some of the really nice chocolate macaroons. But it did start raining when I left the house, chucked it down while I was running between the car and the shops, stopped once I left Tesco, and by the time I got home the skies were blue with not a cloud in sight.
Sunday I managed to get all the cleaning done in the morning, which was a good thing because I had soup at lunch and discovered my digestive system has gone off the idea of eating wheat & gluten. So I am off those for a bit and I'll see what happens. I can't go on the no sugar diet again because I don't have much more weight to lose.
I also bought some castor cups to stick under the freezer so it didn't dig into the kitchen floor quite as much. It then took me a few days to work out why, when I shut the freezer door, it swung open. The manual says that you can make it level by adjusting the two front feet. After much examining of the freezer I eventually discovered that by two it actually meant one. The other now has a folded up piece of paper under it. The spirit level says the freezer isn't level, but it looks level to me, so it'll do. And the door shuts.
Yesterday I got the car washed - it was desperate anyway because it was so filthy and then Thursday some bird shat all over the bonnet, windscreen and driver's side window. Now it is bright and shiny and I'd almost forgotten just how red it was. Today I painted over the scratches, which I'd been meaning to do for over a year. I'd even bought the paint and it lived on my dining room table in expectation. But then I moved. I must have put it somewhere, I just don't know where. So I bought new paint, which means the old one will turn up now.
I know I have a meme to do from lost_spook and there's other stuff I'd like to blog about that isn't all the stuff going wrong in my life at the moment. I'm hoping this week will be a quieter, easier one - next week certainly won't be as I'm packing all my March socialising into one week (by accident).

The jokes they cut from The Now Show
Friday 17th February 2012 7:32 pm
I was really surprised at the things they cut. Since I've just listened to it and it's fresh in my mind, here are the ones I remember: (if you haven't heard it and don't want to know the jokes, look away now) Read more...

The Now Show
Friday 17th February 2012 11:02 am
Last night I went to the recording of The Now Show. It's a funny radio show about the news, so it will go out on Radio 4 tonight. I have listened to three episodes of it, which considering they have six per series and this is apparently their 36th series, I'm doing pretty badly. I keep meaning to listen to it but keep failing. So I thought that going to a recording would make me tape the series. Which I need to do before I leave for work this afternoon in case I'm not home in time...
But anyway, about the recording. I'm not going to give away specifics of tonight's episode, you'll have to listen to it yourselves. But having never been to a recording before (except for ISIHAC, which is done differently) it was all quite interesting.

The things going wrong never stops
Monday 13th February 2012 8:15 pm
Today was not a good day. To start off, I discovered when I tried to start my car, that it wouldn't start. This was because I left one of the internal lights on in it on Thursday night. Which explained why the button on the key wouldn't unlock the doors. Fortunately, I had my work laptop at home and I could just work from home until the RAC arrived. The man pulled the car out of the garage, then half-charged the battery. Then told me to take the long route to work because it needed half an hour's drive.
Then once I was at work I managed to delete all the data in a project because I thought I was in different project which didn't have any data in. Fortunately it was one that had finished that morning, so I had all the data in another place anyway.
I thought I'd got away with that one until I started getting emails from people complaining their survey links didn't work. It turned out I'd accidentally deleted them. You can't get the same links back either, so I had to re-send all the emails with a line telling them to ignore the first one because the link was wrong.
But that was all the morning and nothing went wrong in the afternoon, so I thought I was safe. Then I got home. When I opened the garage I thought it wasn't looking quite straight. But I often think things don't look straight or are moving when they're perfectly straight and not moving at all. But then I tried to close the garage. And then I tried to straighten the garage door. Now it's halfway closed and I need to call the estate agent to get someone to fix the string on the door.

Today
Saturday 11th February 2012 4:57 pm
Things I planned to do today: Go to Big Finish Day 2
Things I actually did today: Drained the water out of the washing machine manually via the pump
Things going wrong this year continues... The reason for not going anywhere is because I'm too dizzy. Probably due to being stressed last weekend. If I'd not gone to ballet on Wednesday and not gone singing on Thursday (when I left early anyway because it started snowing just after I left the house) then I might have been ok today. And I probably could have gone today and got through it, but I would have really regretted it tomorrow and probably for most of next week too.
But instead I did some washing. And the spinning cycle sounded like a drill... It turned out that the pump needed cleaning, which I wanted to go months ago because my clothes kept coming out of the washing machine smelling, but I couldn't work out how to get to the pump because the washing machine is in a cupboard. It turns out that the bottom part is just clipped on, although I have to dismantle what felt like half the kitchen to get to it. There are quite a few things about this house that have clearly been designed by a man to look good, and they haven't thought about usability.
Everywhere I've lived I've had the washing machine go wrong in some way or another. So I do at least know quite a bit about washing machines...

Books
Tuesday 7th February 2012 8:13 pm
Theoretically I was writing up the books I'd read every month. But then I spent a while putting off reading A Game of Thrones, then spent a while reading A Game of Thrones and I haven't done one since. So here's what I've read in what I can remember of December, January and so far in February.

Why I haven’t posted for the past two weeks
Saturday 4th February 2012 9:33 pm
I purposely uploaded my Bad Day icon to my Dreamwidth account so I could use it when I crosspost this to LJ and DW. Yes, things have been that bad. It's mostly been lots of little things, but I am definitely having a bad year. The past two weeks I have:
