Fandom Questions Meme

This seems like the sort of unimportant thing I feel like talking about today.
1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?
The Bill. When we first got the internet in 1996 I came across the official site and the forum. And then when they changed the forum design and decided I'd come back when they put it back to how it was... I forget when I did go back, but it was after I had a pseudonym to use on the internet. I only left when MikeB's site shut down (it had become the alternative forum when the official site got rid of its forum).
2. What is your latest fandom?
It's a toss-up between Carry On (Simon Snow) and Victoria (Drummond/Alfred). With the former I wrote a fic for Yuletide and I have been reading some fic. I keep meaning to read more but there never seems to be the time and I am really behind on B2MeM reading. With the latter I got into it late last year when I watched the second series of Victoria quickly before the Christmas special. I have written a couple of fics and started reading most of the fics on AO3, but they're pretty much all terrible (like missing capital letters, missing punctuation levels of terrible). Judging by the author's notes, I am not touching the fandom beyond that with a bargepole.
If I count things where I've read or written at one fic but nothing else, then I could also count Daisy Dalrymple, Taskmaster, Discovery and Belinda Blnked. I don't know what the bar is for saying you're in a fandom.
3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?
I think it would be The Bill. I'm still friends with people I met in that fandom and they live on the other side of the world. It was when first used a chatroom (on the official site) - we used to have chats at 12pm on Sundays and after an hour the UK people would go to lunch and the Australians to bed.
And I enjoyed what we called London Trips. They started off as trips to the studio, to hang around outside and accost actors and crew, and then go to the pub. As time went on we spent less time outside the studio and more time in the pub.
4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?
No. But they've either all been nice or I've just read some stuff occasionally and then that's not something you regret in quite the same way. They haven't all been great. I was in Stargate fandom when it was ridiculous and people literally couldn't understand how I could be friends with Jack/Daniel shippers when I was a Sam/Jack shipper (I later also became a Jack/Daniel shipper - I imagine shipping both would have blown their minds). The Bill fandom got a bit horrible during the soapy era (with accusations of homophobia and the coining of the word heterophobia). I ended up only going to the off topic side of the forum, but then it turned out that was the best part anyway. So I don't regret being involved in either of them.
