Leverage has been renewed for a second series and Hustle for a sixth. Yay! Although I missed the mention at the end of tonight's Hustle, but you can't moor a yacht in Bournemouth. But you can go to the beach (and a very nice beach it is too, in the winter when it's not full of tourists and you can see the sand).

And I have just ordered myself four packs of sausages (I was down to four dinner's worth!), some soup (I ran out ages ago) and some matzo. Given that I seem to be running out of all my food (I do need to go shopping and do baking) I might actually have food after this weekend.

Tonight I should have gone back to fencing, but not only did I actually see ice, but there was fog on my way home too. Given that I have to get there and back on a road I dislike in the dark at the best of times, I've saved it for next week.

But it did mean I got to watch Hustle live and not off a DVD, as I did for the first three series to catch up. I liked it, it was slick, it was British (the Terminal 5 joke!) and none of the characters had soap operas during it. Although at one point Robert Glenister in sunglasses looked so much like his brother I wondered if it had suddenly turned into Ashes to Ashes.

Compared to Leverage... Well, I am quite liking that they're revealing a little bit of each character each week, I'm just worried it'll be too much because it should be about the con, not the characters. And it is typically American (I don't know why, Hustle just seems slicker). But it does have explosions. So they're both good in their own little ways.

But it does make me think. I do like TV shoes with all plot and not much character background. For a start, you can start wherever you like. The Bill used to be like that when it was good. The Avengers is like that. An episode of The Professionals that I saw over Christmas was like that (I liked it, but not enough to tape it). Classic Doctor Who is like that. The best episodes of Stargate and Atlantis are like that.

Which is not to say that I don't like some character stuff. You just can't beat explosions.

Me and TV

I've been watching Leverage and really liking it. It reminds me of Hustle. I love all the exciting stunts and I hope they keep not delving into the character's pasts because I don't really care that much. I just like to see them in action.

I recognised the name Christian Kane before it started, although I couldn't work out why. Once he was on screen, though, it was obvious - he was Lindsay in Angel. But there's another character in it - Sophie Devereux - and I spent the whole of the first two episodes wondering where I recognised her from. Her flambouyancy seemed familiar too and it drove me mad, until I remembered to look it up on the imdb. It turns out she was Jane in Coupling.

Apart from that I have no broadband at home until Monday 🙁 But tonight is my only night in this week until Sunday, so I'm probably not going to notice too much. I have a whole load of things on my PVR to watch too, and a Star Trek DVD from lovefilm - when I've watched that one I'll have seen every episode of every Star Trek series. Including the animated ones.

I did get hold of Band of Brothers to try, since so many people on my friends list think it's the best thing since sliced bread, but I didn't even make it all the way through the first episode. Which wasn't that much of a surprise because it's not really my sort of thing.

Also, I might have a soya intolerance. Or a stomach bug, but I'll wait till Christmas to find out where I can be ill in comfort. I finally managed to upload my Yuletide fic. It was typical - I got it done before I moved, but then the uploads went wonky if you or your recipient's name began with P-Z and that includes me since my name starts with P. Once it was back, then I had no internet.
