Sunday 12th August 2007 10:00 am

I have finished all of the First Doctors episodes. I almost don't know what do with myself now - I liked him, and I really liked Steven. I have now seen all the episodes for all the odd numbered Doctors. I just have to work on the even numbered ones now.

I did find some interesting things I can do with WP comments, like allow people to post with the LJ ID. So I will be playing with that at some point.

And an old meme, recently seen on Van's LJ:

Post a topic, list, category, whatever, in my comments section. (examples: "5 Loveliest Things About Remus Lupin" or "5 Things You'd Do If The World Explodeded" or "Top 5 things to drink"). Then, in the comments, I'll post the answers to all your Top 5 ideas, according to me.

Interview Meme
Thursday 26th July 2007 7:58 pm

Melli asked me some really hard questions:

A few random things
Thursday 12th July 2007 7:29 pm

In sad news, Peter Tuddenham has died. I've met him - if by met you mean been in the same room as. Funnily enough, he didn't have the same voice as Zen/Orac/Slave at all.

On a happier note, Happy Birthday, Marta!

Exciting news: Heroes starts on 25th July! I thought it wasn't till the autumn, but it'll mean an hour and ten minutes of TV viewing a week, instead of the half hour I was expecting.

Something that occurred to me while reading the paper at lunchtime. The reason filesharing over the internet is illegal is because the file is copied, not because it's shared - lending a video of a recording is not illegal. But, if I was to tape something on my PVR, convert it to a more useful format, send it to someone over the internet, and then delete the original, is that legal or illegal? I'm not planning to do this, it just seemed an interesting question.

I'm slightly scared by the woman in G2 today who had 8 kids and gave them all names beginning with N. On purpose. She did seem to have half a brain, since she pointed out they all had different middle initials, so the post didn't get mixed up. Although that won't work when they get letters addressed to N [lastname]. The names, incidentally, are Nadine, Natalie, Nathanael, Naomi, Neiel, Naarah, Noah, Noelani.

The paper was clearly inspiring today. I realised that, in my head at least, I always use less where other people would use fewer. For example, "I have less chocolates". Which sounds wrong, except that implied in that sentence is 'in the way of', so although I say, "I have less chocolates", what I actually say in my head is "I have less in the way of chocolates". But the 'in the way of' is silent. The reason why I was inspired by the paper? They wrote a sentence using 'in the way of'. And let's face it, it's not the most necessary phrase ever.

And I see the interview meme is going round again. Although I'm going with a variation: ask me five questions and I'll put the answers in another post.

Another meme
Wednesday 31st January 2007 12:06 am

From Ann, although points 1 & 7 only make sense on LJ, not on the blog.

Leave me a comment and I will...

1) Tell you why I friended you;
2) Associate you with a song/film;
3) Tell a random fact about you;
4) Tell a first memory about you;
5) Associate you with an animal/fruit;
6) Ask something I've always wanted to know about you;
7) Tell you which is my favorite user pic of yours;
8) In retort, you MUST spread this disease in your LJ If you feel so inclined, post this in your own LJ to further spread the infection.

Question meme
Monday 29th January 2007 10:25 pm

It's been about an hour since I ate dinner and I don't feel sick yet, so I think I'm better.

Since I've now seen this meme in three different places, I thought I'd make like a sheep.

How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know?

How many times have you felt 'guilty' asking an LJ friend a question that should be 'obvious'?

Well, here's your chance.

If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before. But then, I also reserve the right to answer privately, or not at all.

Because it only seems fair to offer this back:
Wednesday 31st May 2006 1:14 pm

(Well, Ann and aervir, anyway)

Comment and...

1. I'll respond with something random about you
2. I'll challenge you to try something
3. I'll pick a colour that I associate with you
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you
8. If you feel so inclined, go ahead and post this on your own journal

And real post to follow this evening.

Alphabet meme
Monday 8th May 2006 8:57 pm

This is how it works: Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation what the word means to you and why, and then pass out letters to those who want to play along.

Avon gave me an M.

Interview Meme
Friday 28th April 2006 6:39 pm

Yay, it's the weekend - and a three day weekend! The May Day bank holiday weekend (why celebrate for one day when you can celebrate for three or four?) is usually my official birthday, but since Julia's party is Saturday that's a bit weird this year.

From Melli:

The interview meme:

01. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
02. I will respond by asking you five questions of a very intimate and creepily personal nature. Or not so creepy/personal.
03. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
04. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
05. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions

Melli asked me really hard questions, but has at least given me something to think about for two days!

1.What's your favourite non canon ship?

I was thinking of ships and kept realised they're canon, which just isn't on 🙂 Eventually, though, I've decided my favourite, at least at the moment, is Sheppard/Weir from Atlantis. They seem to work really well in AUs. In non-AUs, though, I really can't see them together but since I like lots of UST that works fine for me 🙂

2.Which fanfic (that you've written) are you most proud of?

Generally, it's whichever I've just finished, if I've finished one recently, or whatever I'm writing now if I'm into something. I think it's going to be the drabbles I wrote for Back to Middle-earth Month. Not because I think writing 25 drabbles in 4 days is going to produce 25 excellent drabbles, but because I wrote 25 drabbles in 4 days, which, when I started, I really didn't think I could do.

3.What was the thing that finally made you give up on The Bill? Was there a specific ep?

It wasn't any one specific thing but a culmination of things ending up with me thinking about how Wimbledon on TV doesn't finish until 8.30 and The Bill starts at 8pm. So just before Wimbledon 2005 I realised that I didn't want to tape Wimbledon and if I taped The Bill I just wouldn't get round to watching it. So I stopped watching it entirely and haven't regretted it at all.

4.Favourite West Wing character and why and your favourite episode featuring that character?

Favourite character: CJ. Silly question 🙂 Why is more complicated because I'm not really sure. I think because she's really cool, she's really good at what she does, really clever and quite human as well in the mistakes and bad decisions she makes.

My memory is really poor so my favourite CJ episode is the most recent I can remember featuring lots of CJ and being really good. I looked up the title and it's Liftoff. But as it's early season 6 I can't talk about why because Australia haven't got that far yet (CJ has a particularly stressful day in it).

5.Which city do you really want to visit?

I considered so many cities and finally decided on San Francisco. It looks pretty and sounds as if it might not be as American as the rest of America. When I was younger I used to tell my dad I wanted to go to America but not to any bits that were hot or cold. He's been everywhere so suggested San Francisco.

The ‘I haven’t updated for a while’ big, long post about lots of different things
Wednesday 18th January 2006 8:50 pm

I spent the weekend (ok, well, some of it) updating my website. I now have a contact form that works and I ended up with a ton of music videos to rec on there. I also reorganised my fanfiction page, so its actually grouped by fandom now! Plus I went through my drabbles and indexed them at the top of the relevant pages. As I was going through all of this I kept finding other, little, things I wanted to change. I've been thinking for a while that I want to go through and tweek some of the back-end stuff, perhaps I should actually get round to it.

Just after I uploaded it, I posted a new fic to Langford U - Divide and Subtract, which is a Sheppard and McKay friendship piece. I'm tempted to do some more with those two because they're so fun (although it was so tempting to go slashy!) and work my way through the rest of BODMAS (brackets of division multiplication addition subtraction = the order you evaluate an equation in, and is actually useful in my job!)

I really enjoyed Life on Mars on Monday. The DCI is so much like Burnside. I feel when he told Sam he had asked to transfer there that was important to the mystery of how he got to 1973 in the first place, although I have no idea how. I notice that, like Spooks, they've gone for the American style of starting with a bit of excitement before starting properly and telling us the names of the actors and giving us some pretty pictures. Which annoys me because it means you actually have to be ready at 9 o'clock, rather than just thinking about it. Unlike Spooks, though, they have actually kept the credits in and saved the trailer for next week till afterwards. The BBC are seriously pushing it, though - there was even a trailer for it before Doctor Who on BBC7 (which was the last one *sob*)

Last night we went to see Brokeback Mountain, which was very good and I really enjoyed. The only downside, apart from the 70s sideburns and that terrible moustache, was I couldn't always understand the Southern accents and as a result I have no idea of most of the characters names.

From the A people on my friends list - annmarwalk, avon and altariel - I am going to read my height in books this year. Because it is a good idea, and also because I'm only 5 foot 1 - which is 155cm in books, so shouldn't be too difficult.

And just to finish off, as I asked Una one of these:
Top 5 Meme: You post a topic, list, category, whatever, in my comments section (examples: "Top 5 Johns & Jacks on TV" or "Top 5 pairings in Atlantis"). Then, in a separate post, I'll post the answers to all your Top 5 ideas, according to me.

Wednesday 14th April 2004 9:35 pm

Since I did it to undonne and edrys, it's only fair I give them the chance to do it back.

I want everyone who reads this to ask me 3 questions, no more, no less.

Ask me anything you want.

Then I want you to go to your journal (if you have one), copy and paste this, allowing your friends (including myself) to ask you anything.

I am now the proud owner of a digital camera. With pictures of the cat on. Well, I had to test it out and he agreed to model (ie he was asleep). It's for my birthday, and the really annoying thing is people who say to me that I shouldn't use it before my birthday. They're the same people who don't think I should open cards before my birthday either.

Assuming Emma gets it worked out (I should check really) my last birthday party is towards the end of May. And since I already have a present my birthday has already started. I always think of it as being on May Day anyway, whether that's the right date or not, so I stick two fingers up to these people.

I avoided watching The Worst Week of my Life because I had enough with weddings at work. But whereas that just annoys the heck out of me, this one makes me laugh. I'm going to go and catch up with it now.

Harry Potter
Saturday 21st June 2003 9:33 pm

Friday Five on Saturday (never mind):

1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short?
It's wavy, although tending towards curly when it gets long. It's kind of that in between length, which means down to about my shoulders. It probably needs cutting actually.

2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime?
Lots. And I mean lots. It's been every length from short (and I do mean short) to long (partway down my chest). It has always been the same colour though.

3. How do your normally wear your hair?
Down. I have layers, so most of them are too short to do anything with. Plus I'm crap at doing things with hair and my hair doesn't like having things done to it. I put it up for Tae Kwon Do and fencing, and when I get hot.

4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like?
Red 🙂 I'd quite like to see what it looked like if it was straight though.

5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened?
Nope. Kind of hard to have a disaster when all I do is run a brush through it each morning 🙂

Did my weekend drabbles (go me!). Okay, so did them on the train, but still.

Farscape Friday dead characters - Last Act

Stargate 100 with title from a Farscape episode - The Way We Weren't (I made this 100 words on the first draft as well!)

TPM 100 space - Distance

I can't believe how many shops were selling the new Harry Potter, I really can't. I got most of the way through the first chapter when Waterstones air conditioning hit me, along with the thought that I need to re-read book 4. I'm not in the mood for Harry Potter at the moment. I think the second film put me off a bit. Wonder if it comes out in paperback in time for Christmas?
