Stargate
Sunday 20th July 2003 10:44 pm
I've actually got round to doing the drabbles again this weekend. Wasn't inspired by Farscape Friday's, but the other two I wrote while waiting for the train. Almost handy, this waitiing for trains thing - gets a lot of things written.
Stargate 100 - Tefnut
TPM 100 - Heat
Sometimes I wonder why I bother with Stargate fandom. OK, so I am on a Jack/Daniel slash list, so I probably only have myself to blame But what with all the politics going on, groups really shouldn't wind each other up. Although doing it on your own lists is fine but there were people pointing out that Sam/Jack fic abuses Daniel. Huh? I've never read any of it myself. Hell, it was reading Sam/Jack fic that made the character my favourite. Perhaps I've been lucky and only read the good stuff.
It took me a day and a half to watch the episode I'd downloaded because I couldn't work up the enthusiasm. Once I see them I remember why I like it but in between I wonder. I'm still in the fandom because I have friends in it. And it would be harder to keep in touch with them if I wasn't. But then I think - do I really want to go to SG7? I mean Paris is another country. If it was Blackpool then I definitely wouldn't but London. I'll have to think about it. Perhaps I'll see what SG6 is like - what I'll see of it before I jet off to America anyway. I think I have the better deal frankly.
No more Smallville for a while! How am I going to cope? By reading Clark/Lex fan fic I think. And trying to get hold of the other 30-odd episodes I've missed.

Smallville
Sunday 13th July 2003 10:01 pm
 You like Evil Daniel!
How do you like your Daniel Jackson? brought to you by Quizilla
I got so pissed last night. Technically, I only had two drinks but they contained rather a lot of vodka and I definitely remember downing the equivalent of a shot. And some more. All in an hour and a half. At which point the world was spinning rather fast and I thought bed would be a good idea before I threw up. Then woke up at 8.30 and couldn't get back to sleep. Felt too ill to get up till 11am though. Am only just now waking up, which is typical. Really, really don't want to go back to work tomorrow.
I started watching Smallville two weeks ago. I've now seen seven episodes, thanks to Channel 4 showing two at a time. I just need to catch up on what's going on (it doesn't help that I've never seen any of the Superman films all the way through. I have seen the odd episode of Lois and Clark, but that doesn't really help). Now, Michael Rosenbaum looks much better with hair than without. If only they let him have hair in the series I wouldn't be trying desperately not to fancy Clark's dad. It's not good, it really isn't.
I'm still trying to work out what type of fanfic I want to read though. I'm not sure about some of the pairings. Well, most of them really. Lana is annoying because she's just perfect, and she and Clark and Chloe and Clark have so much less chemistry than Clark and Lex. *sigh*
I was going to do some writing this weekend, but couldn't be bothered yesterday before I went out and couldn't type earlier today. I don't think I'm going to be doing any drabbles this weekend or the HA list challenge. On discussing Jack/Daniel with someone else yesterday we were saying how FDAS tend to be into sex and not UST, and I like Sam/Jack UST. I have half a mind to write some Jack/Daniel UST just to prove a point, but that's quite hard to think about, never mind write. The only way I can read it is when I get to the point where there's feelings or something else going on, I have to stop thinking this is Jack and Daniel. I might get used to it though, I seem to remember doing something similar with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan at one point. It's actually getting quite hard to get back into TPM slash, but then there's only so much mushy child stuff you can take.

The Bill confusion
Monday 28th April 2003 10:24 pm
I've finally got my Farscape drabble written - Impossible Dream.
Found I'd missed some nasty stuff at work on Friday, which is good. I'm terminally confused with The Bill though, because I saw 2 old episodes over the weekend, and coupled with Thursday night's means I'm not sure where we are. I don't really remember anything since Wednesday night very well, which is what is causing the confusion. I think Jim Carver's about to start his descent into alcoholism and Nick Klein has a drug problem. Er, that doesn't seem right...
Feeling a bit pissed off today as the friends I was planning on going to Vancouver and Gatecon with have decided they can't afford to go. There are so many people trying to sell their tickets as well, that it worries me I'll end up seriously out of pocket on this one. I don't really want to go on my own either, half the reason for going was because my friends were. It does make my life easier in some respects, but I am still seriously annoyed. Why can't they save or have decided this earlier?

LOTR index
Wednesday 19th February 2003 8:55 pm
I love the index in LOTR. I was reading various bits about Aragorn and his many names, and the one (fairly big one as well) that I hadn't seen was Thorongil. I looked it up at the back, find the page and there it was. Excellent. Its interesting that although he uses many names, he didn't pick any of them, they were all given to him by someone else.
Quite bored at the moment. Its really annoying that there are two episodes of Stargate on Sky tonight (although its annoying that there's one) because I'm not going to be able to download them till after Redemption, never mind watch them.
On the plus side, Yes Minister is on BBC7 tonight. And I've found a few fics to read tomorrow. I might do some ironing as well.

Smokin’
Thursday 23rd January 2003 6:31 pm
I was in the queue in the newsagents at lunch and a woman carrying a couple of books joined it behind me (why on earth would you buy books there? they're so expensive). I say behind me, it was more to the side really. While the slightly incompetent woman was looking for my magazine I noticed out of the corner of my eye she was looking at the cigarette display behind the counter and shaking, like drug addicts who need a fix do on The Bill.
I thought it was just my imagination, but as I turned to go I discovered that she smelt of cigarette smoke. And when I say smelt, I mean worse than anyone else I've smelt it on. And that's saying something. It was almost as if someone had lit one and blew the smoke into my face it was that powerful. I didn't stay long enough to find out if she bought any. But I'd say its a fairly safe bet to assume she did.
Have put paragraphs in this time
My dream last night had Gandalf in it. Which isn't really unusual given that I'm working my way through the DVD and the book. I'm not sure I ever read the prologue (concerning hobbits) before, so that was really interesting stuff. What was unusual was that the Gandalf in my dream was the Bagenders version. Legolas was mentioned, something to do with singing, although I never got to see any of it. Which was probably just as well really.
Farscape on Monday was really good. I felt guilty for suspecting D'Argo partway through, but the stuff with him in it was quite gripping. The mental guy I could have done without and I can't work out what Scorpy's game is at all. The BBC Cult site on the other hand, hated it. Which is the exact opposite to Stargate.
I taped The Bill last night to watch Stargate as it sounded quite good from the description in the TVQuick. Sadly, it was another clip show and by the time I realised I had missed too much of The Bill to watch that instead. It was worse than the other clip show, Politics, which at least had the redeeming feature of a) having the cast in it and b) it was hard to disagree with Kinsey's conclusions. This time though, we all knew he was up to something in advance, they shouldn't have bothered trying to pick a few countries (everyone can find at least one to object to not being there). Thor was good, but a tad ridiculous. And there were people on the UK-SG1 list who liked it. Were they watching the same episode as me? Watching it live wasted an hour as well, as opposed to 40 minutes if I'd just downloaded it in the first place. (I'd have got further through the writers commentary as well)

Quantum Leap
Sunday 19th January 2003 11:57 am
A new LOTR rec - Legacy by Anglachel. Its about how Frodo comes to live with Bilbo. Its almost horrifying in places (I don't see any of the slash in LOTR) but it is quite sweet, and sad in places.
I got up in time to watch Quantum Leap on UKGold this morning and it was the only season 1 episode I haven't seen. It wasn't that good, but its always nice to be reminded how good the series was as a whole. If they did any more - TV movie or whatever - they couldn't do it without Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell though. I'm sure they can fit it in round Enterprise.
I considered watching Stargate on Sky One on Wednesday, but then it occurred to me that it would have adverts in it in annoying places and it clashes with The Bill. So I think I'll download it.

The Stargate Quiz
Saturday 21st December 2002 1:22 pm
The Stargate quiz:
How long have you been a fan of Stargate SG-1?
Since I saw nearly three series worth in a few months, about the time I finished uni which was June 2000, which makes it 2 and a half years.
What was the main reason that you became a fan?
The humour I think. Along with all the interesting sciency stuff and the idea of being able to go to other worlds quickly without having to travel faster than c.
The ONE Stargate SG-1 episode you think is the best they've done, that you can watch forever?
Window of Opportunity
What is the ONE Stargate SG-1 episode you think could be timeless--as in always be played on the TV years from now?
I honestly don't know. I think all the best ones revolve around knowing other stuff about the series.
When was Stargate SG-1 at its best?
Series 2-4.
Who is the ONE character on Stargate SG-1 who you can't get enough of?
At the moment, Teal'c. He is so cool.
Your favourite B-storyline (underlying thread) of Stargate SG-1?
The stuff with Maybourne in, especially now thats hes no longer NID and on the run.
What's your favourite line from a Stargate SG-1 episode?
The one that sticks in my mind at the moment, not sure why is from late series 2 I think: "We come in peace. We'd like to leave in one. Piece." From no other than Jack O'Neill.
What's Stargate SG-1's best season out of all their seasons?
Can I have 2 and 3 combined given that I saw them pretty much at the same time?
How many Stargate SG-1 conventions have you been to?
Three.
Which ONE was your favourite?
SG-4 because the atmosphere was so fantastic (because of the timing mainly) and it was just before the fandom went completely arse over tits.
Do you think you are a fan of the show for its content or for the actors?
The content. I might watch something because a certain person/people are in it, but I would only continue to watch it if it was good for other reasons.
Out of all the charities the Stargate SG-1 fandom (ie: through Gatecon, Sekh's Party, any other events) supports, which one do you support the most?
They're all such good causes how can I just pick one? There's not really one out of those that are particularly close to my heart.
What is your favourite show of all time that's NOT Stargate SG-1?
Red Dwarf, although not series 7 and 8 of course.
Favorite pairing of characters on Stargate SG-1?
Sam and Jack, sad to say.
Really annoyed about Buffy. I taped it on Thursday and watched the first five minutes and they cut so much. But according to my TV guide the Friday night version was also 45 minutes. So I thought I might as well tape the cut version. And then I find out today that last night's was uncut. Why couldn't they have told us that in advance?
I ordered some fencing kit from Allstar on Tuesday and they said it would be delivered on Thursday (which I wasn't expecting at all). So I came home on Thursday to find a note to say they'd try to deliver but as no-one was in they'd taken it back to Aylesbury. Last time they left it with a neighbour so I was expecting them to do that this time. I rang them up, but they needed Allstar to tell them to give it to a neighbour instead. By this time, Allstar was closed, so I rang them Friday morning.
I got in Friday night (well, Saturday morning, technically) to find some post, but no note, so I thought they'd given it to a neighbour and not left a note to tell me (which didn't surprise me). This morning there was a note to say they'd tried to deliver it Friday (the same time they'd tried on Thursday), found no-one was in (do these people have no brains?) and taken it back to Bucks.
Their note says you can't ring them til Monday, but you can go to pick it up before noon if you like. Yeah, right, because I think I'd have to go via Banbury or London, which would take longer than that. As I was about to get dressed this morning, they delivered it. I give in, frankly. Next time I'll just give my work address - the problem with doing that this time was that there was no-one in the building yesterday as we were all at the Christmas party.
I had 4 megs of a 79 meg file for Enterprise left after Thursday when I was last in and the server is down. So I'll have to get the whole thing from somewhere else instead. And Stargate and catch up on Alias and Buffy from a really slow server. Great.

Red Dwarf, Stargate, Alias
Sunday 15th December 2002 12:41 pm
I've found out what a meme is, according to the LiveJournal Meme Repository it is: "an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture".
After I did one topic yesterday it must be time for more than one today.
Red Dwarf: I watched Future Echoes on Friday, as it was on a DVD that came with a DVD magazine. Its only when you don't watch something for so long that coming back to it, it surprises you how good it is. I've only just found out that Samantha Robson was in Psirens. I've seen the episode since she started in The Bill as well, so there's no excuses there. I will have to watch it again, now that I know.
Stargate: I'm going to miss Jonas if he's not in season 7 much. Yes, there are elements of him that are contrived - he learns quickly and does Daniel's job. But the rest of him is interesting, I think. Trying to earn Jack's friendship, learning about Earth from Teal'c. Speaking of which I love Teal'c this season (6). The whole team dynamic has changed, which is interesting to see, but I think Teal'c is loving not being the only alien. And having lived on Eaerth for five years he's a lot less alien than he was previously. He does jokes, sarcasm and interacts with humans without them realising he isn't.
Alias: Having just seen Passage part 1 I really feel for Jack. Having been betrayed by Irina he finds it hard to trust anyone or get close to them since. Maybe he and Sydney not speaking for many years was a part of that. As a result he really hates Irina, doesn't trust her and doesn't know what her motives are. And maybe a little scared that she'll betray Sydney the way she betrayed him. But even with all that he still loves her. I think pretending to be a family must have been really hard to do. We have no way of knowing though what Irina thinks. We can be fairly certain she doesn't love Jack, but she either loves Sydney or is pretending to. She must have been a very good actress to fool Jack for over seven years. Who knows what's really going through her head?

SG5
Thursday 31st October 2002 9:37 pm
Haven't posted for a while due to being tired. I got 3.5 hours of sleep Sunday night (entirely my own fault) and not that much more any night before that. Then it took me 9 hours to get from Blackpool train station to Oxford train station on Monday, where I was constantly changing trains (busy) and sitting around at Birmingham for so long I thought I wasn't getting home. Not good. And just realised I haven't told my video The Bill is only an hour long tonight. But new Buffy!
Anyway, will maybe do some website stuff this weekend as my photos will be back by then (I took 2 films worth!). Spent serious amounts of money even before Chris Judge's talk on Sunday. Where I paid half of 150 to grope Garwin Sanford (Narim). I'd much rather it had been JR's (Martouf) but he was too expensive, plus it was apparently quite bony. Garwin did at least have a nice arse, even if he is nearly the same age as my mother.
Er, what else. All the usual stuff really. Will put something on my site maybe, or write it in here when I'm feeling more inspired. I must do something with this as well, I've been getting inspiration from reading other people's recently.

SG5
Wednesday 23rd October 2002 10:56 pm
I almost wish I hadn't watched the thing on Human Instinct now, it was gross. And kind of scary. And reading angsty Alias fic with lots of UST, probably not helping. I so need the time off this (long) weekend, work's getting a bit stressy now. I think we should get more time off a year, it would really help. Plus if we didn't get so overworked. Not that I can really complain, given that I start and finish on time nearly every day, although I have done some overtime every week since August now.
Looking forward to SG5. Considering how I can convince Jay and JR to pick me up so I won't look so short in the photo Will have to hatch some plans when I meet up with everyone on Friday. Looking forward to going up to uni as well. I haven't been there since term 2 last year, so its been a while. Its always strange though, because it feels like home, apart from the bits that have changed, those feel weird. Plus being able to walk across campus and not recognise a single person. That so rarely happened while I was there.
Have thought about packing, but still working myself up to it! Will do some in the morning when I'm feeling more awake, hopefully going to get a lie-in. Instead of planning to go to bed at 11 and getting there at quarter to 12, I am going to stay up and watch Buffy. So it will be at least tomorrow by the time I get there. Which will doubtless be my earliest night until Monday, which will be ridiculously early.

So little time, so much to watch
Tuesday 22nd October 2002 10:28 pm
Have lots of Buffy, Angel and Alias to download but no time to download it in! Was really busy at work today just after lunch, then there wasn't very much to do later on. Which was probably just as well. We're being checked for ISO a week on Thursday, so really need to find the time to go through all the projects and check everything is there and signed.
Only one more working day to go! Really looking forward to seeing Jay Acavone again, he was so funny last time. Having said there's no way I want my photo done, I can't help thinking that one with Jay and JR Bourne would be quite nice

Lots of things
Wednesday 9th October 2002 10:38 pm
Meant to write in this yesterday, but got tired and went to bed about half ten. Then couldn't get to sleep, so ended up watching a bit of Stargate Director's Cut at quarter to midnight. I have noticed some differences as well. Not entirely certain if they're better or worse yet though. Still totally indecisive about going travelling, hence the not sleeping. I should just see how it goes really, try to do some more IT at work, and if I want to go, it doesn't necessarily have to be next summer. I did realise that I really want to see the Northern Lights (can't spell technical name!). Everything I can pretty much take or leave to be honest. Then I'll have seen just about every stellar phenomena there is.
Been watching loads of Alias recently. I've just realised how good it is. Stupidly went to find some websites and accidentally read some spoilers for episodes I haven't seen yet, which is annoying. But I think some of them won't really make sense until I get to those episodes anyway, and I might well have forgotten them. I found some read hair dye in Boots, that is pretty much the colour I want and only lasts 3 washes, which is good. Unfortunately, you need blonde hair for it to work. Bugger.
Run out of other things to do now! Meant to do some work on my website, but haven't got round to it. Need to stop typing though, hand hurts. Will go and watch Stargate instead maybe (bugger all on TV of course).

Stargate and Alias
Sunday 29th September 2002 1:49 pm
The SG4 video was really sad, mainly because they played THAT song at the end. So then I went and found the What If video and realised I'd have to watch Meridian at least once for my essay. I think its because I haven't seen any Stargate with Jonas in for a while and I've only really read stuff with Daniel in. It would be cool if Corin Nemec was at SG5 though. Its only 4 weeks to go, which I can't believe. It still seems like such a long way away.
Went to Tae Kwon Do on Friday, which was hard, but good fun. Had completely forgotten until Sally rung yesterday that I was supposed to be going to Rotary tomorrow, so I won't be able to go to Tae Kwon Do. Have to take the Junior's Meeting tomorrow. Scary! I'm getting into Alias now. I just wish they wouldn't leave each episode on cliffhanger, then end it within 2 minutes of the next. Its just a ploy to get you to watch the next one, which if it was good in its own right, you would. We don't need to be treated like idiots who watch soaps. I am continually amazed at how nice Sydney's hair is when she's working undercover, considering how limp it looks any other time.

SG4
Wednesday 25th September 2002 11:36 pm
Watched part of the SG4 video. I've only seen the opening ceremony, but I remember now how I lost my voice afterwards from so much screaming! I need 3 passport photo (I think thats what he said) for Tae Kwon Do, so of course I have 3, and there's no-where in Wallingford to get more. Watched 3/5ths of Buffy, because RealPlayer refuses to play part 4, which is really helpful.

Stargate Infinity and Alias
Monday 16th September 2002 10:33 pm
I think I ought to have another early night, as I'm feeling quite tired. Done something nasty to my knee though. I think I've bruised it inside - usually bruises on the outside don't appear that quickly, or look quite that nasty. I just have to be careful not to touch it. Stargate Infinity reminds me of something, I forget what though. Probably something I watched when I was little. Not only is it not any good, but there's continuity they've not bothered with, and stuff I'm sure they've done purely because its set in the future, where of course people commonly have blue hair.
I quite liked Alias, despite the pinkness of the video. I might watch it again if I'm in, but I'm not that bothered about it. Had a day of not getting much achieved really. Really bored of this week already! Would much rather be back in Derby really. Is it possible to be bored with 899 TV channels I wonder? Hmm, I could quite happily do a study into it...

Stargate University
Wednesday 11th September 2002 10:35 pm
I was actually feeling quite bored by 8pm, but could now stay up all night. I found the Stargate University last night, and thought up a few topics to write essays on. The science stuff I can understand, but its when I start descending into English Lit it gets quite bad. I actually quite like disecting these things (up to a point, anyway). Maybe its because I'm actually interested in the stuff and I'm not being forced to dissect what the author meant, or compare or contrast anything. Mrs Alper has a lot to answer for.
Everyone else was out so went and watched Friends on E4 downstairs. So Chris rung in the middle of it, which was annoying, especially as I'd left my train times upstairs, so I had to spend money typing it into the phone and running out of characters. Then I remembered what someone had mentioned at the weekend about Dr Jackson's Diaries. If I said it was funny, that would be putting it mildly. At one point I couldn't stop laughing. And I'm only up to February. I can pretty much cope with the slash in it though because its so funny. I will not be converted to Jack/Daniel slash, thats just too weird.
I managed not to do stuff I should have done, hence the boredom. Really need a weekend at home so I can get loads of things done first thing in the morning when I'm feeling energetic. Not feeling energetic when I get home after work as I've spent this week sorting out the printer and writing really quite amazingly boring databases (amazing because they're complicated, you'd think they'd be interesting, but no, they're just a bugger).
