Summary: Sarah attempts to get used to the relationships she has with her children.

Sarah stepped through the front door into her house with a sigh of relief. It felt like she had spent half her life in that hospital, worrying whether Georgia was going to be all right. She had learnt a lot about looking after a baby and made friends with other mothers there, but that was no compensation. The worst thing had been having to settle for watching her and not being able to hold her as much as she liked. Now she held the baby close to her. More than once she had thought they would never get this far.

She let out an "oh" in surprise when she saw the lounge. There was a banner hung up that said 'Welcome home Georgia' drawn in various different colours with felt tip pens on pieces of A4 paper. Chains made of paper hung from the walls and the ceiling. Someone had been busy and, given the grin on Luke's face, Sarah was fairly certain who it had been.

"Did you do this?" she asked him.

He nodded.

"Thank you." She smiled. "I'm sure Georgia will be thrilled with it when she wakes up."

He came closer to look at her. "She's still yellow."

He was right. "She's a lot better than she was. We'll just have to watch her and make sure she doesn't get worse."

"And carry on taking photos," Harry said, as he came in, carrying Sarah's bag. She had taken a photo everyday, so they could check how Georgia was doing. She was almost tempted not to stop, except that they would end up with over three hundred of them in a years time, which was probably a bit over the top.

The sound of Nat's wheelchair announced her entrance from elsewhere in the house. "I know you're only doing it so you can embarrass her with them when she's older."

Georgia wriggled, and Sarah looked down to see that she had woken up. Luke offered her a finger, which she took, and he bent over to whisper in her ear. Sarah turned to grin at Nat. "Isn't that what parents are supposed to do?"

"Can I hold her?" Luke asked.

"Sit down then." Considering that he was technically a fourteen year old boy, he was probably stronger than she was, but Sarah had still not quite got over the fear of dropping the baby herself.

Once Luke was settled on the sofa, Sarah passed the baby over to him. He smiled at Georgia, and she looked up at him, fascinated. The two of them certainly seemed fond of each other so far. She wondered how long that would last once Luke had suffered sleepless nights.

"Thanks for looking after him," Sarah said to Nat, as she reached down and hugged her.

"No problem. He's really not that hard to babysit."

"When is she going to do something?"

Sarah smiled fondly at Luke. "It will be a few months yet before she's big enough to play with. But you can help with burping her and changing her until then."

"Okay."

She smiled to herself. He probably had no idea what it would involve, given he had agreed so quickly. She would be glad of his help because although Harry obviously loved Georgia, whenever Sarah went to change her nappy his contribution had been to leave the room. Since he must have seen (and smelt) far worse than that as a doctor, she was not impressed. Although not terribly surprised, since she had guessed that was what he would be like.

It was part of the reason she had refused to marry him when she was pregnant with Elizabeth - he'd have had her at home doing all the housework and looking after the baby, while he went out and had all the fun. She probably would have killed him within a year.

Nat went over to where Luke was sat, so Georgia could hold her finger. Sarah laughed, as Georgia then couldn't decide which of them to look at.

Sarah could feel Harry's presence behind her, also looking down at Georgia. "Glad we kept her?" he whispered into her ear.

She smiled and nodded, reaching back to take his hand. "She's perfect," she said. Georgia hadn't even been in their lives long and already Sarah couldn't imagine being without her. Although she was looking forward to Georgia being old enough for Harry to take her off Sarah's hands for a day at a time. There were parts of her old life she still missed terribly. Although spending weeks in hospital with Georgia hadn't really helped that.

"Yes, she is," Harry agreed. "But you only say that because she hasn't woken you up every night yet."

Sarah smiled. "She can do whatever she likes."

Nat took Georgia from Luke, bouncing her a little. Sarah bit her lip. Georgia had screwed her face up and started wriggled, and Sarah knew what was coming next.

Nat seemed perfectly oblivious though because she said, "I think I'd like one of these one day. Not just yet but..."

Harry muttered something about looking forward to being a grandfather and Sarah winced, since it was certainly loud enough for Nat to hear. Fortunately for him, Georgia started crying and Nat was too busy handing her back to Sarah to reply.

"You might change your mind when you see all the horrible things she does." Somehow, whenever Nat had visited she had always seen Georgia's good side and not the disgusting things that babies did. Although it was far easier to put up with Georgia doing them, than other babies Sarah had seen in her life.

She looked down at Georgia and asked her, "Are you hungry?" She moved a hand under her. "And your nappy needs changing, already. You're going to be hard work, I can tell." But she didn't mind. Sarah already couldn't remember why she ever had doubts about the baby at all.
