As she waited for her drink, she looked round and noticed a strange man watching her. She recognised him from earlier. She went over to confront him, drink in hand as a weapon, just in case.

"I know who you are," he said, "Sarah Jane Smith."

"Ah." Sarah took that as an invitation and sat down opposite.

"You're a journalist with a predilection for investigating strange goings-on."

"You seem to know all about me."

"There's nothing for you to worry about in Sunnydale."

"I'm not so sure about that."

The man frowned and leaned forward. "Would you believe me if I told you it was vampires and demons?"

She nodded. "Yes, I would."

"Oh." For all his research he seemed taken aback by her answer. "In that case, I'm Rupert Giles and if I tell you everything will you promise not to print it?"

She took his hand and managed to avoid promising anything at all, except for meeting up again the next night.
