"I was a dad once." The Doctor sat at the President's desk, admiring the photos.

"It's the best thing I've done. Even better than becoming President." Jed shooed the Doctor out of his chair. "Although it's like having a whole country of children to look after."

The Doctor sat in first one chair and then another. Jed cornered him on the sofa. "Most of the friends you've introduced to me have been young women."

"I must be going." The Doctor jumped to his feet. "Planet to save."

"I can see they appreciate it."

The Doctor paused, but didn't look back.

Summary: Unhappy Sam

It didn't matter how long or how hard Sam stared at the computer, it still didn't make the blank screen in front of him any less white. He could always change the colors, of course, but it wouldn't make the words appear. And words weren't enough to save Josh.

The President was alive and that was important. For most of the world life went on as usual and that meant Sam needed to write a speech to tell everyone what had happened to his best friend and how he nearly died. How he still could die.

He thought about how, if it was someone else fighting for their life, Josh would be harassing people left, right and center. Even if it wasn't the right people or he didn't use the right words, he'd still do it because he was Josh and that was what he was good at. It nearly always got him results too.

Maybe Sam couldn't do that, but he was good with words. He couldn't make Josh better, but he could make sure this never happened again.

He stretched his arms above him and then, when he put his fingers to the keyboard, the words flowed easily.
